Cempaka Pondok Pinang Waste Bank Collects One Ton of Waste

Cempaka Waste Bank RW 09, Pondok Pinang Urban Village, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, managed to collect more than one ton of inorganic waste within a month.

The enthusiasm of residents to sort waste is very high

Head of the Economic and Development Section of Pondok Pinang Urban Village, Hani Purwanti, said that this step is a form of active support from residents in reducing the volume of waste dumped in Bantar Gebang, Bekasi.

She assessed that these results showed that public enthusiasm for sorting waste at home was increasing.

"The enthusiasm of residents to sort waste is very high," she said, Wednesday (10/14).

Although public enthusiasm is quite high, Hani continued, waste bank administrators are still hampered by limited land or temporary storage warehouses.

Therefore, Hani added, her party continues to collaborate with the District Environmental Implementation Unit to provide guidance in its management, so that waste does not pile up.

Head of Kebayoran District Environment Unit, Siti Halimatus explained the process of transporting the weighed waste at the Cempaka Waste Bank is routinely carried out once a month, every Wednesday, second week.

"In one transport, the estimated amount of inorganic waste collected ranges from one to 1.5 tons. We deploy two small trucks to transport all the sorted waste," she explained.

Siti emphasized that, in addition to reducing the volume of waste dumped at the Bantar Gebang landfill, the waste bank's activities also have a positive impact on the safety and cleanliness of residential areas.

"Apart from making the environment cleaner and tidier, this coordinated activity also helps minimize the entry of scavengers or unknown people into residential complexes," she stated.
